Umair Suri
- Vocals, Guitar
From Teaneck, NJ. He has completed a major in Ceramic Material Science and
Fiber Optic Engineering at Rutgers and is working on a minor in Economics for
the upcoming semester. Umair has been playing
guitar for about 2 years. His influences include Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Def
Leppard, and a number of punk pop bands like Green Day and The Offspring as
well. He brings an interesting guitar sound to the band since part of his
influences are not entirely punk based. He has also helped Pinch in the writing
of lyrics, song structure. His strongpoint are his guitar riffs that help
develop a song.
Here’s
what Umair has to say:
“Hey what’s up guys?
Thanks for checking out our page.
I hope you like it so far. A
little bit about myself… real quick… I play baseball volleyball, I live in Teaneck, NJ which is cool since it
is only about 15 minutes away from NYC.
I just graduated as an engineer.
I like engineering and it kind of helps when you play in a band in which
so much equipment is involved. If you
come to rehearsal or a recording session chances are you will see me somewhere
putting wires together or setting levels and setting up equipment. I love doing it. I love music equipment.
I’m like my own roadie. For me its all about playing music that the band
has such an influence on. I have good
time on stage playing some chunky guitar riffs or soloing when I don’t even
really even know how… But if it sounds good and is in the right key its ok with
me. Right now I want to see if we can
record some good demos that we can really promote ourselves with. Coming up with good riffs is a pretty
tedious process. Anyone can hold the
guitar for ten minutes and come up with a bunch of notes that you can repeat. But for it to actually flow right and to be able to envision it as
a part of a song is a little more time consuming. The way I write is I try to just get some kind of melody in my
head (usually with a few hooks and soaring choruses) and work backwards from
there. I remember when this thing
started back at Rutgers when Pinch and I would perform in front of like 7
people who were like not at all interested in hearing us play… without drums or
bass mind you. I think we have
definitely made a little progress since then.
We are playing Hoboken on a Saturday Night. I think that’s pretty cool.
And it looks like its only going up from here! Drop me an email at doubleyellowline@50megs.com if you have any questions about anything. Take Care. ”
Sincerely,
Umair Suri
